Nasib Bekas Prajurit Sarawak Yang Tidak Beri Perhatian oleh Pemerintah

PAS Sarawak sangat simpati dengan nasib dan masalah yang dihadapi oleh
bekas prajurit (Sarawak Ranger Veteran Association) seperti yang
dilapor oleh akhbar ‘Borneo Post’.

Sepatutnya pihak kerajaan menghargai pengorbanan yang telah dicurahkan
oleh bekas-bekas renjar Sarawak yang bertugas semasa Darurat di Tanah
Melayu dari 1948-1960. Mereka membantu askar tanah Melayu dari ancaman
pengganas komunis dan memastikan negara ini selamat daripada
peperangan.

Mereka sudah lama memohon agar diberi tanah lot dan juga kenaikan
elaun bulanan yang berpatutan dengan keadaan hidup semasa bukan hanya
diberi RM100 sebulan. Sepatutnya elaun mereka dinaikkan
sekurang-kurangnya setanding dengan indeks kemiskinan nasional
sebanyak RM700.

Pihak kerajaan kena bertindak dan mengambil perhatian dengan segera
akan nasib yang menimpa bekas prajurit dan veteran ranjer ini agar
mereka juga dapat menikmati kebebasan yang mereka perjuangkan selama
ini dari ancaman komunis. Jangan hanya pihak komunis yang menyerah
diri saja dapat pengampunan dan diberi kemudahan sedang pejuang
kemerdekaan dipinggir begitu saja, adakah mungkin disebabkan mereka
berlainan fahaman politik dengan parti pemerintah? Adalah tidak adil
bagi bekas prajurit ini yang bermatian berperang menentang musuh
negara sedangkan musuh yang menyerah diri pula diberi keistimewaan.

Jangan hanya waktu dekat pilihanraya baru sibuk nak minta para
prajurit menyokong mereka (BN) sedangkan selama ini nasib mereka
terabai begitu saja tanpa sebarang bantuan yang sepatutnya. Kalau pun
diberi elaun bulanan sebanyak RM100 ini bukan sesuai lagi untuk hidup
pada masa sekarang dimana kos kehidupan semakin meningkat dan bekas
prajurit pun bukan minta banyak dan sudah tentu mereka pun bukan boleh
hidup lama lagi untuk menikmati erti kemerdekaan yang mereka
perjuangkan selama ini. Kita minta pihak kerajaan jangan biarkan bekas
veteran prajurit dan bekas polis yang pernah berkhidmat untuk negera
dipinggir begitu saja tanpa sebarang bantuan dan perhatian.

Ingat lah mereka ini juga yang patuh dan taat setia menurut perintah
semasa berkhidmat dengan pemerintah tetapi apabila mereka sudah tidak
berkhidmat dengan pemerintah mereka langsung tidak hargai terutama
sekali golongan atau anggota bawahan. Mungkin hanya segelintir saja
yang diberi keistimewaan kerana mempunyai kepentingan tertentu.

Ramai lagi anggota-anggota bawahan yang menerima nasib yang malang
cuma tidak dilaporkan mungkin disebabkan mereka takut atau tidak tahu
ke mana hendak mengadu. Kita minta pihak kerajaan bersikap adil untuk
semua tanpa mengira bangsa, agama dan fahaman politik.

The fate of Sarawak ex-Soldiers did not get any attention by the Government

PAS Sarawak is very sympathetic to the plight and problems faced by
ex-soldier (Sarawak Ranger Veterans Association), as reported by the
Daily Borneo Post.

The government should appreciate the sacrifices of the former Sarawak
Renjar during the Emergency in Malaya from 1948 to 1960. They were
helping the Malay state land from the communist threat and to ensure
that this country safe from war.

They had been applying for lots of land and also the disclosure of the
RM100 allowance has led to numerous calls to the Government for an
immediate review of the said allowance for the unsung heroes, at least
to be on par with the national poverty index of RM700.

The government has to act and take immediate attention to the fate of
the former soldier and veteran ranjer so that they also can enjoy the
freedom they fought from the communist threat. Do only the communists
who surrendered only be granted amnesty and the freedom fighters off
the facilities are there just because they have different political
affiliation with the ruling party? It is unfair for the former
soldiers who serve for the country against the enemy while the enemy's
surrender was given the privilege.

Do not just look busy during the coming election and seek the soldiers
to support them (the BN), while their fate neglected over the years
without any proper assistance. Even if he is given an allowance of
RM100 is not suitable to live in the present, where the cost of living
rising and the former soldier shall not ask a lot and they would not
live long to enjoy the sense of independence they are striving for
this. We ask the government not to let a former veteran police and
former soldiers who had served for the country off of it without any
help and attention.

Remember that they are also compliant and obey to the government rule
while serving with the government but when they are not employed by
ruling party they did not being appreciated, especially the peasants.
Perhaps only a few was given the privilege because of having a
particular interest.

Many of other subordinate members has the unfortunate fate but not
reported because they fear or do not know where to complain. Be fair
to all regardless of race, religion and political affiliation.
